Jackets entries in the spreadsheet
Jackets are the most expensive category to ship per kilogram in the census, and the reason is volume rather than mass. A puffer or a lined shell occupies 8–12 litres, which at the 5000 divisor becomes 1.6–2.4 kg of volumetric weight against a 1.0–1.6 kg scale reading. Compressing or vacuum-packing changes the bill more than switching lanes does.

Why this category costs what it costs
The billing driver for jackets is volumetric weight, which means the box matters more than the contents. On the US — Economy lane a parcel in this category lands between $5.90 and $24.30 of freight depending on which band it ends up in.
Three of the six cost segments are effectively fixed once the weight band is known: domestic delivery, the service fee and insurance. The two that move are international freight and duty, and both move for reasons that are visible before payment rather than after.
